AUSTIN (KXAN) - An Austin Fire Fighter was honored Sunday with the Outstanding Firefighter Gold Medal.
The award given to Fire Specialist Chris Dibrell by VFW District 28, c.
The VFW post said Dibrell was honored because because he, “best exemplifies the dedication and goodwill demonstrated by the countless other public servants in his or her chosen field”
The VFW District 28 says the award is given to honor firefighter’s who exemplify all of the best qualities of first responders.
The organization says they honor the “outstanding character of the men and women of our firefighting agencies; the dedication to country; the understanding of the plight of others; the devotion to fire safety and community; and their sworn objective to protect the life and property of all the people of our nation.”
The Austin Fire Department is one of the 20 largest departments in the country with 45 fire stations located throughout the city and more than 1,100 employees.
