AUSTIN (KXAN) - Austin school board members will give Superintendent Meria Carstarphen their final feedback Monday night on a number of changes proposed in the facility master plan.
The changes include plans to rescue struggling East Austin schools by opening an in-district charter and turning two middle schools into single-gender schools.
In a press conference Friday, Carstarphen said she would be suggesting holding off a year on the single-gender schools at Pearce and Garcia Middle Schools so she could have more time to explore how it would work and recruit teachers.
The facility plan also includes boundary changes and shifting students in various schools to ease overcrowding in North Central Austin schools.
