AUSTIN (KXAN) - One person died in a fiery crash on northbound U.S. Highway 183 in North Austin early Thursday.
At about 2:15 a.m., the driver was exiting at the ramp to Burnet Road and somehow lost control. Police said they did not know the exact cause of the crash at this point.
The car caught fire, and debris scattered on to Research Boulevard, the U.S. 183 access road below. APD closed off northbound Research Boulevard from Peyton Gin to Burnet Road.
On Monday, officials identified the victim as Javier Sabalvarro, 35.
His death is the 66th traffic fatality of the year.
