AUSTIN (KXAN) - The other side of this race weekend is all the music and parties of Fan Fest.

Downtown Austin streets have been shut down and turned into a big party scene.

Flo Rida and Aerosmith played in Austin Friday night at the Convention Center and Frank Erwin Center, respectively.

Saturday night will see Enrique Iglesias with Nelly and Tee Double at the Austin Convention Center. Lupe Fiasco will take the stage at ACL Live.

Saturday, Mayor Lee Leffingwell took part in a fun community art project using racing tires dipped in paint at the Austin Fan Fest.

The success of the event has the mayor saying Austin Fan Fest will become a tradition here in town.

"The Fan Fest is an interval part of a week long celebration that we are going to start a tradition here in Austin for the Formula 1 race. And we want to do everything we can to make sure they have a good time," said Mayor Leffingwell.

The Austin Fan Fest officially kicked off Friday at 6 p.m., though road closures started Wednesday and continued throughout the weekend.

Although the action-packed event gave visitors a way to unwind from the race track, most F1 fans were still focused on who would win on Sunday.

"I wish that Hamilton would take Vettel out of the race so Fernando could win," said Mirko Mirales, visiting from The Dominican Republic.

The roadblocks essentially surround the Warehouse District of Downtown Austin, and within those perimeters is where some real transformations are taking place.

Usually full of traffic, the Warehouse District is now filled with tents, trucks and workers -- turning the city streets into a live music venue.

The closed roads make way for the stages and structures -- and the thousands of people ready to embark on the city.
