Family pleas for help in teen's murder

Teen killed in fit of road rage, new leads needed

AUSTIN (KXAN) - An Austin family is searching for answers in the murder of 17-year-old Efren Gonzalez. The teen's death is one of only two unsolved murders in Austin in 2012.

Gonzalez was killed in the early morning hours of Oct. 21, 2012. On Thursday, Austin Police said Gonzalez was drawn into an argument with another person as he was leaving Club Escapade. The argument quickly escalated.

Police said moments later the suspect started chasing the 17-year-old down Loyola Lane. The suspect rammed a truck into Gonzalez' vehicle. He was thrown from the vehicle and died at the scene.

Thursday members of Gonzalez's family asked for the public's help in finding the suspect. Laura Rojas said, "My sister she's never going to be ok without my nephew, but that will give her some relief to know that this person is not going to do anything to anybody else."

Gonzalez's father Efren Gonzalez Sr. tried to speak, but after a few words, he said he could not.

Police said Thursday the suspect's description is vague, possibly a light-skinned Hispanic man. But officers believe the suspect drives a large white or grey-colored pick-up truck, possibly a Ford Super Duty with front-end damage.

If you have any information on the accident, please contact the Austin Police Department.
