AUSTIN (KXAN) - A celebration was held Monday in East Austin, as a local private school moves toward building a new campus.
The Acton Academy held a groundbreaking ceremony at a four-acre site located off Manor Road.
The school will teach elementary, middle, and high school students using Montessori and Socratic teaching methods.
Founders say the new campus will bring new options for parents and students.
"What's different about this school is the children are really doing the learning," said co-founder Jeff Sandefer. "In many ways we don't have teachers, we have guides so we're giving them the latest game-based, skill-based program, we're giving them the latest in projects and they're learning in the real world."
The elementary and middle school should be complete by August 2013 with the high school available in 2015
