Longer ballot has voters taking time

AUSTIN (KXAN) - Finding time to research, study and figure out what national and local issues you agree and disagree with can take time.

For some Travis County voters, deciphering what's on the ballot is the hardest part.

In 2008, 153,000 people turned out to vote in the first week, this year, just more than 117,000.

"We have a little bit longer ballot this time and voters need about one minute more to vote," said Travis County Clerk, Dana DeBeauvior.

That's because this year, Travis County has quite a few more  items on the roster -- with the bond election including the debated proposition 1.

Workers at polling sites said many voters didn't realize how much was on this ballot and decided to take a sample copy of the ballot home to study the issues.

When you go in to vote, you are allowed to bring any notes you may have but no electronic devices are allowed.

There are 23 early voting locations in Travis County and they're all open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Last day to vote early is Friday, Nov. 2.

"There is going to be chance of lines on election day, so we really do encourage people to come out and vote early," said DeBeauvior. "We've seen 120,000 people come out and vote early."

More then 300,000 people in Travis County are expected to cast their vote in this years election.
