AUSTIN (KXAN) - Around midnight Nov. 3, a cyclist was hit from behind near the intersection of East Riverside Drive and Yellow Jacket Lane.
The cyclist, Cody Johnson, 28, was transported to University Medical Center Brackenridge in critical condition, but later died.
Friends of Johnson said he was well known in the Austin cyclist community and worked at a local bike shop. They also said that over the weekend family chose to take Johnson off of life support.
One of the cycling groups Johnson rode with, Queer Ride, will remember him at the end of their regular ride on Wednesday. They leave from the Long Center around 7:30 p.m. Afterwards there will be a slide show and remembrances.
After the accident, the driver of the Nissan Sentra that hit Johnson's bike stayed on scene and was arrested for a driving while intoxicated. Other charges against the driver are pending.
Johnson's death is the 67th traffic fatality of the year. At this time last year, there were 46 traffic fatalities.
