Bee stings cause driver to hit house

PFLUGERVILLE, Texas (KXAN) - Thursday, for the second straight day, a massive bee attack in Pflugerville.

A man driving east on Cameron Road was stung by bees that flew into his car window, which apparently forced him to lose control and crash into a house.

Turns out that's the very house where the hive was hidden, home to some 125,000 bees.

First responders saw a terrible sight.

Nick Perkins, battalion chief for the Pflugerville Fire Department, says, "When firefighters got here he was on the ground, basically had bees covered onto him. They began swiping the bees off, got the hose and started spraying him."

The man, who was not identified, was struck some 200 times and required hospitalization. Someone who stopped to help, was stung several dozen times, but officials said he refused treatment..

The crash into the house at 16319 Cameron just southeast of Pflugerville happened just before 12:30 p.m.

Firefighters were called in to spray foam on the bees because the insects were too aggressive for beekeepers to control.

Keith Huddle of Keith's Bee Service says he gets about twenty calls a week. His advice is to try and get inside a house or car, and especially run. "The faster you get away from the hive they're going to chase you but the further you go the less you'll have on you. Get away!"

This episode comes one day after a man in Pflugerville was stung more than 300 times when an estimated 125,000 bees were disturbed from a hive inside an old wooden dresser.
