AUSTIN (KXAN) - Say goodbye forever to the old Downtown post office on Dec. 27.

Then say hello to the new location on Jan. 2.

In September, the U.S. Postal Service announced selection of the site for a new 7,118-square-foot postal facility at 823 Congress Ave.  The new postal station will provide full postal retail services and house post office boxes for customers with ZIP codes 78767 and 78768.

The current Downtown station at 510 Guadalupe St. was sold this year but kept open until a suitable alternative location could be secured. The Guadalupe location will close permanently at 5:30 p.m., on Dec. 27, in order to complete the move to the new Downtown Station Post Office location over the extended New Year’s Day holiday weekend.

Hours of operation for the new Downtown Station Post Office, will remain the same, 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., Monday through Friday, closed Saturday and Sunday.

In September, mail delivery operations for Downtown Austin residential and business customers within the 78701 ZIP code area were moved to the South Congress Station Post Office.
