AUSTIN (KXAN) - A crash in South Austin sent an Austin police officer and a child to the hospital late Sunday night.
The officer was running lights and sirens while responding to an emergency call when he was hit by another car on the overpass at William Cannon Drive and Interstate 35.
The crash ultimately involved a pickup truck and a Jeep, as well as the patrol car, but officers are still investigating how the wreck happened.
Austin/Travis County EMS took the officer to University Medical Center Brackenridge and a child in the Jeep to Dell Children's Medical Center. Both are expected to recover from their injuries.
EMS crews treated three other people at the crash who did not need to go to the emergency room.
