COTA reinstates four private events

Public input placed events back on COTA radar

AUSTIN (KXAN) - Welcome news for some motor sport enthusiasts who spent the day thinking they wouldn't get the chance attend some private events planned at Circuit of the Americas.

The track confirmed that it has agreed to reinstate agreements with four organizations hosting private events.

In a statement to KXAN News COTA officials said it would honor track rentals with four organizations that had booked track days and paid rental fees in advance.

“We are moving ahead with these agreements and contacting clients so they can share this information with their members and customers,” Circuit spokesperson Julie Loignon said.

The events had been canceled but now COTA says it will honor those contracts.

The track is in the process of contacting those organizations but says the additional events will limit the amount of vehicles on the track.

“The executed rental agreements will limit the number of vehicles we have on track at any given time to ensure a fun and safe experience for participants, including any amateur drivers who will be participating."

On Saturday COTA said it received a number of requests to rent the track in 2013 and couldn't accommodate them all.

The move sparked protest in racing circles on social media from fans that were looking forward to checking out the track at those events.

In the media release COTA officials said, "We regret the confusion that was caused as we worked through these issues with our clients and look forward to providing a one-of-a-kind experience to auto enthusiasts coming to Circuit of The Americas through our track rental program.”
