Cloudy with a chance of rain in Austin

AUSTIN (KXAN) - Even though it may be many, many miles from Central Texas, Hurricane Paul will make an impact on our weather Tuesday.

The Pacific-born storm is pumping up the moisture into the Lone Star State.

This will provide the area with a day full of cloud cover and the chance for a few light, scattered showers.

Also, due to the lack of sunshine, thermometers will struggle, with highs only expected to reach the mid- to upper 70s.

This has been an above-average year for rain. With that being said -- and even with some spots getting as much as 0.25 inches of rain Tuesday -- we still need more.

Unfortunately, after Tuesday the chances for any more wet weather are very low -- at least for the next six- to seven days.

Paul's effects on Tuesday will move on, and we are looking forward to a mixture of clouds and sunshine and some warmer air punching back in. Highs will end up reaching the upper 80s.

This warm-up, however, won't last long because a cold front will push through on Wednesday night.

The chance for rain along this boundary is very grim, although it will still make its presence known. A noticeable chance in temperatures will happen behind the front.

Highs on Thursday will dip almost 10 degrees from Wednesday's numbers, only reaching the upper 70s and low 80s.

This type of variation in temperature hasn't been a stranger to Central Texans throughout the past few weeks. It is normal, though, considering we have now entered fall.

This means we are in the middle of a transition period, and making the move from more of a summer climate to a winter one will come with a few jumps and dips.
