Christmas nightmare for apt tenants

No running water, no explanation

AUSTIN (KXAN) -
It's a Christmas nightmare for hundreds of people who've now gone days without running water. People who live at the Enclave Apartments in Cedar Park are now demanding an explanation.

"Today is the fifth day we've had no running water and all they've given us is a jug of water at our front door," said My Bui, a resident at the complex.

Tenants say they're fed up after getting no notification from management. The front office is now closed for the holidays and maintenance to a broken water line has stopped.

"You can't bathe, you can't brush your teeth, you can't take a shower," said Larry Barton, who lives at the complex. "It seems to me like they're enjoying their Christmas and letting the tenants fend for themselves."

My Bui says she's been struggling to care for her young son without water.

"It's awful I can't even wash cups for him to drink out of, we have nothing" said Bui.

Larry Barton says this couldn't have happened at a worse time.

"My two sons are coming from out of town," said Barton. "I have a 95 year old mother-in-law who is going to be here for Christmas dinner and to open presents."

But those plans may be out the window if they don't have running water to cook and clean with. And while there's no telling when the water lines will be fixed; families are still hoping to wake up on Christmas Day to a present that can't be found under the tree.

"Boy I'd tell you that'd be a celebration around here," said Barton.

According to the apartment management company, Simon Real Estate Group, the property water supply was shut off on Christmas Eve in order to complete the needed repairs. Management said there was a riser leak that was several feet underground and it took a while to dig and find the actual location.

Management said they have had plumbers and onsite staff working diligently non-stop in order to rectify the problem.

We will continue to check with those living at the apartments, and the management until this problem is fixed.
