AUSTIN (KXAN) - A driver is in the hospital after crashing his vehicle into someone's home on Friday afternoon.

Austin police said the accident happened just before 3:30 p.m. in the 5600 block of Northeast Drive , near Colgate, in northeast Austin.

Initial information indicates the 30-year-old driver was driving at a high rate of speed, lost control, flipped the vehicle and struck the house. Police said the driver did have a felony warrant out for his arrest, but at the time of the accident there was no active pursuit.

A patrol officer did see the car go by him a few minutes earlier, so police are trying to figure out if the driver got scared and sped off.

The driver of the vehicle was transported to University Medical Center Brackenridge with serious injuries. Police said he died from his injuries around 7 p.m.

One person was home at the time but he was not injured. The homeowner won't be able to stay at his home tonight due to the damage but he is working with Red Cross and plans on staying with family tonight.

Police were still investigating the accident late in the afternoon.

Update: Police have identified the deceased driver as 32-year-old, Patrick Vonzell Alexander.
