AUSTIN (KXAN) - The Austin Parks and Recreation Department on Tuesday issued a temporary burn ban for all city parks, greenbelts and preserves due to current fire hazard conditions.

This includes a reminder that no smoking is allowed in city park areas, as well.

The ban means no wood or charcoal is allowed to be burned in barbecue pits or grills. Propane stoves are allowed in designated picnic areas only.

Violations of the burn ban may result in a fine between $300 and $500 if Austin Police Department or a park Ranger issues a ticket.

The public will be notified when the burn ban is lifted.
