AUSTIN (KXAN) - The alleged ‘orange car burglar’ KXAN News told the public about on Wednesday is now in police custody.

Austin police said Thomas Reyes, 24, was busted on Wednesday afternoon when he was allegedly trying to break into a home -- but unbeknownst to him, the homeowner was home and already calling 9-1-1.

Reyes ran away from the home and when officers located him, he was a passenger in another car.

Police said the suspects lead them on a short chase but they decided to bail out of the vehicle and run from the scene.

While running away, officers said Reyes turned to look back at them and ran into a tree.

Reyes was arrested and charged with evading arrest.

Detectives said Reyes has been charged in three cases from Wednesday -- where he burglarized three homes. The homes were on Danville Drive, Bend Drive and Apollo Drive.

Police said the suspect did the same thing at each home, he passed on the electronics and went straight for bedroom drawers and bathroom cabinets.

While Reyes is not currently charged with the burglary on Pioneer Crossing , detectives expect the paperwork to be filed in the next few days.
