HOUSTON (KXAN) - The British Consulate-General is counting the days until the 24 cars and drivers run the inaugural race at Circuit of The Americas in November.
Tuesday, Andrew Millar issued a statement touting the strength of the United Kingdom when it comes to Formula One racing, and said the Austin debut will be a big moment for Britain.
“The UK is the birthplace of modern motorsport," explained Millar . "We are the leader in Formula One international racing technology, drawing on a wealth of world class design, precision and high-performance engineering companies and acclaimed R&D. We’re enormously excited by the opportunity to showcase this over the Grand Prix race weekend.
“The UK has a long track record of success in worldwide motorsport racing and true passion for the sport. We’re excited to be sharing some of that with our friends in Austin and Texas more widely,” Millar concluded.
The British Consulate-General Houston and UK Trade and Investment will host events Nov. 16 through Nov. 18, as CoTA breaks in the track east of Austin.
At the F1 Tech Rally, Formula One leaders will talk about their technology development – how it drives the performance of the vehicle but equally how the advancements are spinning out into a range of other industrial sectors.
"The Best of Britain" reception will showcase the UK as a center of elegance and glamour.
More details will be released about the events in coming weeks, according to Millar's office.
In the meantime, CoTA and contractors continue to put final touches on the track, grandstands and other buildings with just two months until the first run on the asphalt at the state-of-art facilities.
A new video made public this week , produced by KUT and narrated by the F1 track's German engineers, gives the public a driver's view of the twists and turns of the CoTA track, building anticipation for F1 race fans, who like Millar, are anxious for those F1 engines to roar once again in the U.S.
