AUSTIN (KXAN) - Travis County parks officials have decided to put their decision in reverse regarding the ban on boats in the eastern cove of the clothing optional Hippie Hollow Park on Lake Travis.
At a community meeting on Wednesday night, park officials admitted they made a mistake and agreed to reestablish boater access along the shoreline.
"We had not approached it in the proper way and we came to a compromise," said Dan Chapman, Chief Park Ranger with Travis County.
Earlier this month , the Travis County Parks Department decided to move the buoy line back for safety reasons and to create a larger swimming space for park users.
In the past two decades, the number of boats and size of boats entering the cove has increased, creating an unsafe situation for swimmers, the parks department says.
Park officials said it'll be a couple of weeks before the buoys are moved back to the original location.
Hippie Hollow park has a daily use entrance fee of $12 per car. Pedestrians or bicyclist can enter the park for $5. The cost for seniors and Veterans is $2.
