AUSTIN (KXAN) - Best Buy announced Saturday they will close 50 stores company wide, including one of 13 stores in the Austin area.
The Techridge location at 12901 North IH-35 will close permanently on May 12th.
In a statement released to local media Best Buy said they will notify employees in the morning, the store will remain closed until April 12th for a final sale.
“This was not an easy decision to make. We chose this store carefully, and are working to ensure the impact to our employees will be as minimal as possible, while serving all customers in a convenient and satisfying way. But we also recognize the impact this news has on the people who deserve respect for the contributions they have made to our business.”
In all, Best Buy says they will close 50 stores as part of a “transformation strategy.”
“We will be working to help these employees find other positions inside Best Buy. If they don't find new positions, or if they choose not to work at a different location, a transition including severance packages will be available,” a company spokesperson said.
Best Buy says they will be contacting customers who do businesses at the Techridge store Sunday morning to notify them of the closure. The remaining 12 austin-area locations will stay open.
