AUSTIN (KXAN) - Thursday night several Austin musicians will hold a benefit concert for the family of Esmeralda "Esme" Barrera.

The teaching assistant and music mentor was killed in her home on New Year's Day. The killer is still at large.

On Tuesday, Barrera's family held a funeral for her in El Paso.

Friends of Barrera, as well as her former co-workers at Waterloo Records, have planned a series of fundraisers to help cover funeral costs and to create a reward fund to help catch the person who killed her.

Thursday's benefit concert starts at 7 p.m. at the Scoot Inn , located at 1308 E. 4th Street. Organizers said all proceeds will go to Barrera's family.

Another fundraiser is also planned for Thursday night, at the Big Snow Buffalo Lodge in the Brooklyn, New York, area.
