BASTROP, Texas (KXAN) - Bastrop State Park superintendent Todd McClanahan sees the regrowth of the park on a daily basis.
McClanahan is especially close to the recovery of the Bastrop landmark, he lives in the park.
Firefighters saved his family's home in the 2011 wildfire.
Seeing the destruction everyday while driving through the park can sometimes be hard and McClanahan doesn't take the park's beauty for granted anymore.
He has spearheaded the efforts to bring visitors back to the park, which was closed for three months after the fire burned 6000 acres. Most of the structures in the park were saved.
McClanahan called the fire a significant event in his life and is optimistic that over time the park will return to its former glory.
