AUSTIN (KXAN) - Killed on New Year's Day in her rental home, Esme Barrera was a teaching assistant and a mentor at a girls' music camp.
There will be a benefit concert at Club 1808 on East 12th Street. Bands will begin playing at 6 p.m., and proceeds will go to the Barrera family.
Friends and musicians joined forces at the Scoot Inn Thursday night in East Austin to raise money for Barrera, a big fan of live music in Austin. The concert featured several bands, and the money raised will help Barrera's family pay for funeral expenses.
Barrera was laid to rest Tuesday in El Paso.
Barrera also worked part time at Waterloo Records, which is collecting money to help build a reward fund for information about her killer.
Another fundraiser is also planned for Thursday night, at the Big Snow Buffalo Lodge in the Brooklyn, New York, area.
Meanwhile, police continue to search for her killer.
