AUSTIN (KXAN) - The City of Austin Parks and the Recreation Department is teaming up with the Austin Park Foundation to physically improve parks in the city.
The Austin Park Foundation is looking for volunteers for "It's My Park Day" on March 3. Participants can sign up with their family and friends to help renovate their favorite park around town.
Austin has more than 60 family-friendly park projects and is estimating for more in the near future. The Austin Park Foundation was founded in 1992. They have been able to improve community areas from volunteer work, millions of dollars in donations and city park financial support. The Foundation works in areas such as off-leash areas, picnic sites, disc golf courses and playgrounds.
Last years team had more than 2000 volunteers working on 72 projects. Their efforts contributed over 7200 hours of community service.
