AUSTIN (KXAN) - The Asian American Cultural Center in North Austin celebrated the Harvest Moon Festival on Saturday, an event intended to commemorate the eighth full moon of the year.

The Harvest Moon Festival, a traditional event, is celebrated throughout Asia as a symbol of fullness and fruition. According to the AACC, "every family member is expected to try his/her best to come home, even from afar, to complete the family circle."

"Everywhere you go to, the moon will look the same," said executive director Amy Mok Wong. "So when they look at the full moon, they will imagine their family members at home, even though they have found a new home."

The AACC is celebrating its 12th anniversary in Austin. The intention of the center is to take facilities, expertise and space to share culture between East and West in a unique American experience.
