AUSTIN (KXAN) - The Circuit of the Americas race track in Southeast Austin is about to become a "destination" for all types of events.
Organizers at the race track are making a lot of progress booking events, including an upcoming race from down under.
Australian V-8 Supercars will race in Austin on the third weekend in May.
"If you're a NASCAR fan you're going to love this, very rough and tumble, "said COTA spokeswomen, Julie Loignon.
"V8 Supercars Austin 400" will be the very first United States venue to ever host the Aussie race.
"We expect a large turn out of Australians to cheer on their favorite series, " Loignon said.
The race is also expected to attract lots of NASCAR fans here in Texas.
"It's a very physical kind of racing, were going to be using our 2.3 mile track instead of the full circuit, " Loignon said.
Roaring engines won't be the only sound this year.
A new 14,000 capacity amphitheater, Austin 360 , is set to open April 5th.
Country music star, Kenney Chesney is set to kick off the new music venue along with other big names like Train and Jimmy Buffett.
The theater can hold up to 14,000 people, making it the largest permanent outdoor venue in Austin.
COTA is not stopping at just music and racing, they are also looking at bringing boxing and tennis matches to the venue.
There's a possibility track officials could make a bid to host the Summer X-Games. That event could attract nearly 150,000 fans.
