AUSTIN (KXAN) - On the eve of the Austin PRIDE Festival, the Lesbian and Gay Police Officers Association-Austin (LGPOA-Austin) , in partnership with the Austin Police Department, unveiled a new "It Gets Better" video.
Chief Art Acevedo, along with sworn and civilian APD employees, share their personal LGBTQ stories in the video in hopes of encouraging and empowering the LGBTQ youth community.
"There is a tremendous number of people who will love you for who you are, not who you love," said Acevedo. "We love you, we care about you, and we will stand by you."
"Our goal in creating the video is to inspire a positive message for all LGBTQ youth, to emphasize a message of hope and courage, life and happiness and to say that while you are struggling with the difficulties of today we are here for you," said APD Officer Steven McCormick, LGPOA-Austin President.
The video will be played at the Austin PRIDE Festival on Saturday, Sept. 22, 2012 at approximately noon.
The "It Gets Better" project is a nationwide endeavor that offers support and encouragement to youth who are struggling with their sexual identity or who are bullied for being different.
