AUSTIN (KXAN) - Officers with the Austin Police Department are headed to Washington D.C. for President Obama’s inauguration, making sure he stays safe.
The group, made up of 41 specially-trained officers will help maintain crowd control and crowd management..
The APD officers left Saturday morning via bus to Austin Bergstrom International Airport where they flew out shortly after 11:00 a.m.
"We're excited. It's part of history," said Chief Art Acevedo. "It's an honor for us to represent the great state of Texas and the city of Austin."
Acevedo said the department has been planning the event for months and will be able to cover the shifts of the officers who are traveling to the nation's capital.
