AUSIN (KXAN) - The Austin Police Department is ramping up its recruiting efforts in search of its next class of officers to join the force.
The men in blue want you and they hope with the help of social media, the pool of candidates will be plentiful this year.
APD officers Dan Abney and Jesse Mendoza said the department is looking for new recruits and they have been pleasantly surprised with the results they’ve seen from the social media campaign soliciting applications for Police Officer Cadet Positions.
All applicants must be U.S. citizens, and be at least 20 ½ years old but no older than 46-years-old at the time the academy begins. Those interested must also have a High School Diploma to GED and have completed at lease 30 semester hours at an accredited institution with a minimum G.P.A. of 2.0 and a valid drivers license.
APD says they offer a very competitive salary and benefits package with a lower cost of living when compared to other major U.S. cities. The department also said officers can expect to enjoy the benefits of working for a growing city with many options for career advancement. A new recruit will earn a starting salary of $32,000, after graduation from the academy officers would then be paid $55, 500 a year.
