Austin police are on the hunt for two suspects who they believe struck and killed 35-year-old Austin architect Matt Casey.
Officers say the assault happened on Labor Day weekend at the corner of 6th Street and Neches Street downtown. Casey ultimately died from his injuries two days ago.
Surveillance video on 6th Street has helped police with several pictures and video of the two suspects they are now working to track down.
Matt Casey's friends and colleagues are mourning his tragic death.
Casey owned his own architecture firm in Austin, Casey Design. Friends and colleagues say he was a renowned and respected architect whose life was cut short over the Labor Day weekend.
"It's hard to accept that someone is gone and you'll never get to talk to them again and ask them what happened," said Javier Martin, a co-worker and friend of Casey's.
The Austin Police Department is working to figure out what exactly happened. They released video of the two suspects who they believed struck Casey in the head as he was leaving a bar on Sixth Street downtown.
"The reason they went out on Sunday night was because they were putting together a fantasy football league," said Martin. "He was just going home and never made it back."
Police say there were two suspects involved.
Suspect #1:
- White male
- Approximately in mid-20s
- 5 feet 6 inches to 5 feet 8 inches
- Thin build
- Short hair
- He was last seen wearing a black baseball cap with a light colored logo
- long black shorts with a black shirt tucked into a back pocket and dark-colored tennis shoes.
Suspect #2:
- White female

- 5 feet 6 inches to 5 feet 8 inches
- Athletic build
- She was last seen wearing a white baseball cap with small logo with her hair pulled into a ponytail
- light colored tennis shoes
- a pink-and-blue jumper (shorts) outfit with a single strap over her right shoulder.
- the outfit was predominately pink with blue across the left side of the chest.
Casey ultimately died of blunt force trauma.
"At this time we are unclear what the motive was for this altercation and assault," said Scott Elhart, with APD.
"If anyone else recognizes these people or have been in any altercation with these people that night or any time please give us a call we would like to speak to them."
Now Casey's desk and chair sit empty at work as his friend and colleagues mourn his loss--hoping the suspects come forth. His friends also created a facebook page in his memory.
"To do something like this and run off it's a despicable act," said Martin.
APD asks the public to contact them if anyone recognizes the pair in the attached videos.
