AUSTIN (KXAN) - A school bus and a Ford Ranger pickup collided in the 1600 block of Woodland Avenue late Monday afternoon.

No children were aboard at the time, but the driver of the small truck was taken to the hospital.

The wreck involving the Austin Independent School District bus was blocking traffic on Woodland Avenue from Interstate 35 to Matagorda Street.

The wreck happened around 4:20 p.m. This report will be updated as details emerge.

April wrecks

On April 27, nine students were among 13 hospitalized after a fiery four-vehicle crash that left a charred school bus on its roof in Seguin, about 35 miles northeast of San Antonio. Passersby helped pull people from vehicles.

The accident happened when the 18-wheeler clipped a car that moved to the shoulder to let it pass.

None of the middle and high school students sustained life-threatening injuries, though the driver of the 18-wheeler was airlifted to a San Antonio hospital but was expected to survive.

The bus was reportedly new and designed to cushion the impact of head-on collisions.

Four days before, paramedics responded to a school bus crash in North Austin on April 23. Officials said there were no injuries in the wreck that happened at Clear Creek Drive and Cameron Road.

March wreck

Another school bus crash happened in Austin just less than a month ago on March 26.

A car rear-ended the AISD school bus that Monday morning with 32 people aboard.

EMS crews at the scene said there were no injuries in the wreck that happened at Slaughter Lane and South MoPac.

February wrecks

In mid-February, emergency crews took six people to the hospital following a school bus crash near Parmer Lane and U.S. Highway 290.

The accident happened at 8:15 a.m. when a white sedan rear-ended a Manor Independent School District bus headed east on the highway toward Manor High School.

EMS crews evaluated 42 patients after the crash, which involved no serious injuries.

Meanwhile, another accident involving a school bus happened that same morning in Cedar Park on New Hope Drive east of U.S. Highway 183. District officials said it was a minor rear-ending at a railroad crossing and that there were no students on board as it headed back to the bus barn.

On Feb. 23, teenage siblings died in a Hill Country wreck involving a school bus.

Sierra Hardin, 16, and Caleb Hardin, 14, died in the Thursday afternoon crash at 4:04 p.m. on State Highway 29 between Bertram and Burnet.

Sierra was at the wheel when the four-door Buick slammed into the back of a school bus with 13 students on board, killing both brother and sister instantly. One student was taken to the hospital with minor injuries.

January wreck

A wreck involving a Del Valle school bus sent 17 students and another person to the hospital that Friday morning, but all injuries appeared to be minor, officials said.

In all, four ambulances were requested and 52 people were aboard the bus at the time, including the driver.

The crash happened near Ross Road and Pearce Lane down the street from Del Valle Middle School.

Police said that an SUV hit another vehicle, which they hit the school bus. The two girls in the vehicle struck by the SUV were sisters and were on their way to Del Valle High School when the wreck happened. One of the sisters, the driver, was not a student.

They, along with 16 students on the school bus, were taken to Dell Children's Hospital. The remaining students went on to school.
