Aircraft must reserve ABIA for F1 times

Parking system will be in place

AUSTIN (KXAN) - Austin-Bergstrom International Airport announced Wednesday that aircraft operators who expect to fly into and out of the airport during days surrounding the U.S. Grand Prix Formula One race must make reservations for space.

Officials said that due to the large volume of expected air traffic, a parking reservation system has been established to ensure that ramp space will be available for arriving aircraft.

A Prior Permission Required number will be needed for all aircraft that will park or drop off passengers, with the exception of current commercial carriers operating normally scheduled flights.

International flights

A reservation is also required for larger commercial charters wishing to park on a ramp or at a gate at KAUS.

ABIA has a limited capability to process passengers and cargo arriving nonstop from origins outside the United States with prior notice. Receipt of a PPR number is not permission for international flights to fly directly into KAUS without clearing Customs and Immigration.

All operators seeking to fly directly to KAUS from an international point of origin should contact the Austin U.S. Customs and Border Patrol Authority no later than 30 days prior to the desired arrival.

FAA flight management

In addition, the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) will utilize management initiatives when arrival rates exceed airport capacity between Friday, Nov. 16 and Monday, Nov. 19.

Pilots should be prepared for potential airborne holding, reroutes, or Expected Departure Clearance Times (EDCT) that may be issued for all domestic IFR arrivals to airport in the local area including:

  • Austin-Bergstrom International Airport (KAUS)
  • Austin Executive Airport (KEDC)
  • Georgetown Airport (KGTU)
  • San Marcos Airport (KHYI)

Contact Austin-Bergstrom FBOs at:

  • Atlantic Aviation Services, 4309 Emma Browning Avenue, 512-530-7000
  • Signature Flight Support, 4321 Emma Browning Avenue, 512-530-5451
