AUSTIN (KXAN) - The Austin Fire Department said Monday that the 50 recruits in Cadet Class No. 115 began their six-month training academy.
The 50 cadets were chosen from more than 4,300 applicants and will spend the next six months in intense classroom and hands-on training. Those who make it through the academy and pass all of their required testing, they will graduate on May 31. Then they'll spend six months as rookie firefighters.
“Becoming a member of the Austin Fire Department is not an easy task,” said Division Chief Brian Tanzola, who oversaw the 2012 hiring process. “These cadets are the best of the best, and I know they look forward to completing the Academy and beginning their service to the citizens of Austin.”
