AUSTIN (KXAN) - Austin Community College will run a test of their emergency notifications on Wednesday so students and staff can make sure they are registered correctly.

After Tuesday’s shooting at a community college in Houston , ACC student government asked emergency management coordinator Kristine Elderkin to attend Friday’s meeting to discuss the notification system.

“They are concerned about how to get the message,” said Elderkin.

As news of the Houston shooting began to spread, a few ACC students told KXAN that they do not receive the text and email notifications.

Elderkin said Friday that all students would receive the notifications but only if they had updated contact info on file with ACC.

“If they want to receive a voicemail message or a text message, they have to make sure we have their most up to date information.”

Wednesday will be the regularly scheduled test of the notification system which happens once every semester.

Students who do not receive an email or text message on Wednesday should make sure their contact information with ACC is correct.

ACC has 70 police officers protecting 8 campuses and 2 additional administration buildings.
