PFLUGERVILLE, Texas (KXAN) - A Texas Ranger shot a man after showing up to a Pflugerville home to arrest him, according to the Department of Public Safety.

The state agency said the Ranger was serving a warrant in the 1200 block of Orchard Park Circle just before 4 p.m.

DPS spokesman Tom Vinger said the suspect put up a fight and then tried to take the Ranger’s gun during a scuffle. The Ranger fired the gun in self defense, according to DPS, and hit the suspect.

The injured suspect was taken to the hospital and is expected to recover. The Texas Ranger had minor injuries from the scuffle.

DPS have not given a name of the suspect or why the Texas Ranger was trying to arrest him in the first place.

Neighbors who live nearby told KXAN News police are on the street often responding to drug related calls.

The shooting will be investigated by the Texas Rangers and the Pflugerville Police Department.

The Pflugerville Police Department said they will not be able to tell KXAN News if officers have ever been called to the home before until Monday.
