AUSTIN (KXAN) - The Travis County Sheriff's Office is investigating a crash site near Pace Bend Park where officials say the driver of a pickup truck drove off the edge of a 100-foot cliff Sunday night with two passengers inside.

A spokesperson with the sheriff's office told KXAN two of the men in their early 20's were dead when emergency crews found the wreckage at the bottom of the cliff about 50 feet from Lake Travis. The third person was able to find a cell phone and call 911 at 12:15 a.m. while still pinned under neath the 4-wheel drive truck.

The Pedernales Fire Department said it was difficult to find the truck at night. When they finally did, it took crews at least an hour to remove the survivor from the truck as the rain poured down and thunderstorms passed through Central Texas.

The man, believed to be in his early 20's, was flown by Starflight to University Medical Center Brackenridge with life threatening injuries.

The accident happened on a piece of private property where officials say the three men were staying located in the Ranch Resort of Lake Travis subdivision.

The owner of the property told KXAN he noticed the truck driving around at 10 p.m.

Crews are expected to be on scene most of the day Sunday as they try to piece together evidence.

It is not clear where the men were from, but officials believe one was local.
