AUSTIN (KXAN) - Around 6 p.m. tonight, two cars collided at U.S. Highway 290 eastbound at U.S. Highway 183, killing one.
Investigators tell us, a mini van and Ford Explorer crashed, when one of the cars ran a red light. Right now, they are unsure which car ran the light.
Austin and Travis County EMS said, they transported two people to University Medical Center Brackenridge from the mini van in head-on collision. One person suffering from life-threatening injuries died.
APD says the other person is being treated for non-life threatening injuries. There were also two people inside the Explorer, neither needed to be transported.
Right now the names for those involved are not being released. The cause is also under investigation. But police say weather likely had played a role. Rain and fog has been in Austin for most of the day reducing visibility on the roads. Another crash earlier today, killed a woman on Anderson Mill Road.
