AUSTIN (KXAN) - A man shot two women and two men at the intersection of Sixth Street and San Jacinto Boulevard, as patrons spilled out of bars at closing time Sunday morning.

Austin Police watch command reports a man fired one round just before 2:30 a.m., striking one woman in the leg, another in the foot.  The women are expected to recover from those injuries. Two additional victims, both male, were found at a separate location up the street.

The suspect took off running after the shooting, and police have not been able to find him. Officers did, however, find the gun they think he used, discarded nearby.

APD does not yet have a specific description of the suspect. They said the victims were uncooperative with officers, and likely drunk.

This comes at a time when violence and drug crime is reshaping business in the area that has long been one of Austin's most popular tourist destinations.

A Saturday night stabbing prompted the owner of Logan's on Sixth Street to shut his doors in protest , after 15 years in business.

And several other nightclubs and bars are in limbo, after the operators, Mike, Steve and Hadi Yassine, were arrested on federal drug and money laundering charges .

A search of the recent crime in the area shows four aggravated assaults and 40 assaults in just the last month, in a 1,000 foot radius around the intersection of Sixth and San Jacinto. The results also show one sexual assault and one aggravated robbery with a deadly weapon.
