AUSTIN (KXAN) - Three vehicles were involved in a wreck that happened in Southwest Travis County just after 5:30 p.m. One person has died, according to officials.
The crash happened on West State Highway 71 at Creek Meadow Cove. The location is about four miles west of Hamilton Pool Road.
According to Sgt. Mike Cantu with the Texas Department of Public Safety , a white Dodge pickup truck was hauling a vehicle on a flat-bed trailer. According to initial information, the driver of the truck was going eastbound on Hwy. 71 when he swerved into the westbound lanes to avoid rear-ending someone in front of him.
When the truck driver did that, he ran head-on into a woman driving a Honda CRV. Cantu said the woman in the Honda CRV died at the scene.
The trailer that the truck driver was hauling became unhooked and was struck by a van.
Austin-Travis County Emergency Medical Services evaluated eight people and ended up transporting a total of six people: four adults and two children. STARFlight transported one of those adults to University Medical Center Brackenridge and one of the children to Dell Children's Medical Center.
Hwy. 71 was closed for several more hours as authorities surveyed the wreck.
