AUSTIN (KXAN) - One person was killed Sunday night and four children were hurt after an 18-wheeler landed on top of a SUV and pinned it to a utility pole.
The passenger of the SUV, identified as 28-year-old Belinda Cisneros, was killed in the crash. The driver was taken to University Medical Center Brackenridge with life threatening injuries. Four children were also in the SUV. They were treated for non-life threatening injuries at Dell Children's Hospital.
Austin Fire Department was also on scene to help pull out those pinned in the truck.
A preliminary investigation showed that the semi was traveling west on the U.S. 290 service road's middle lane as it approached the U.S. 183 southbound service road. A 1995 Suburban was in front of the semi. The driver of the semi changed lanes to the left of the Suburban.
"The Suburban then made a left turn in front of the semi-truck onto the southbound service road of U.S. 183," Austijn police said in a news release. "The semi-truck collided with the driver’s side of the Suburban pushing it onto the curb, into the signal light pole and pinning it against the pole."
The driver of the 18-wheeler was not hurt.
