AUSTIN (KXAN) - Austin Pets Alive! is opening a new facility in South Austin that will help save the lives of an additional 1,000 animals.
Volunteers have been working around the clock to refurbish their new Adoption and Resource Center, located at 2805 Manchaca Road. They are tearing out carpet, painting walls and setting up the surgery room, where vets will spay and neuter incoming pets.
Staff members are especially excited about the outdoor area surrounding the new facility. They plan to put up fencing to designate exercise areas for the dogs and puppy play yards.
Austin Pets Alive! saved over 4,000 lives since 2008. The APA Center says it will immediately save at least 1,000 additional lives in the first year (on top of the 3,000 lives they plan on saving anyway without the building).
