AUSTIN (KXAN) - Tom Schieffer is a former ambassador under George W. Bush and is currently considering running as a Democrat for the Governor of Texas. Schieffer joins Jenny Hoff in the KXAN studio to discuss his service under the Bush Administration and how it has shaped his political career.
Tom Schieffer is a good friend of Former President Bush as well as a former ambassador to Japan and Australia under his administration. He stayed loyal to his backgrounds as a Democrat even when asked to join the George W. Bush administration. His past as an ambassador has led to his consideration to run for Governor. While in Australia, Schieffer began to realize the impact of the global economy and that Texas is falling behind. He says that Texas is not preparing young Texans in what he calls a crisis of leadership. Schieffer identifies the education system as the roots of the problem. In his consideration for the Governor’s race, Schieffer looks to Texans to answer some of the questions he has about the current education system.
Tom Schieffer will be traveling throughout the next several
months to simply connect with Texans and discover what they want to
see in a Governor. From there, Schieffer says he will decide
whether or not he’ll run.
