AUSTIN (KXAN) - Despite a messy start to the Christmas week in others parts of the U.S., most Christmas Eve travelers flying out of Austin-Bergstrom International Airport should reach their destinations. As of 2 p.m. Wednesday, JetBlue was the only airline who canceled their flight to and from New York City. Several other flights were delayed, but nothing drastic.

"We've only got an hour delay right now," said Jim Faro. Faro is heading home to Boston for the holidays with his wife and dog, Benson. "We just hope that an hour doesn't turn into two or three or more."

Passengers dreading long lines arrived extra early to catch their flights. They were pleasantly surprised to find extremely short lines at the security checkpoint. Airport officials continue to urge passengers to show up early to avoid any problems.

For the majority of airliines, if a flight is canceled due to weather, the only way a ticket can be reimbursed is if a passenger purchased a refundable ticket. Passengers with non-refundable tickets cannot get their money back. Airlines can try and book passengers on a later flight but getting a spot is not guaranteed.
