Joe Straus sits down with KXAN

AUSTIN (KXAN) - Jenny Hoff hosted the first edition of Session '09 on Austin News In-Depth on Sunday before the 2009 Legislative Session begins.

Jenny sat down with San Antonio Two term Representative Joe Straus to discuss how he emerged as the new Speaker of the House and what he hopes to accomplish. He is most certainly the news maker of the week. Representative Joe Straus was a relative unknown until last week. That's when the ABC's or "Anybody But Craddick" group of 11 Republicans announced he was the man they wanted to be the next Speaker of the Texas House. He then accomplished something few, if any have done and unseated the incumbent Speaker Tom Craddick. Straus will also make history by being the first Jewish Speaker of the Texas House, but who is this man who will soon be the one of the most powerful politicians in the state? Jenny Hoff takes the time to find out.
