SAN MARCOS, Texas (KXAN) - A ribbon cut on Wednesday signaled the opening of Post Road in San Marcos.

The ceremony took place in front of Travis Elementary School , with Mayor Susan Narvaiz, members of the City Council and other officials doing the honors.

According to the city, the $9.5 million project improves mobility and safety, utility service and drainage along a busy thoroughfare.

The project began in 2006 and widened Post Road from two to three lanes from Bert Brown Street to the city limits. It also added a continuous left-turn lane along Lime Kiln Road from Post Road to the city limits.

The construction replaced water and wastewater lines, extended the Sink Creek wastewater interceptor to Lime Kiln Road, constructed water quality detention facilities and added storm water drainage.
