AUSTIN - Dame Edna has been entertaining audiences around the world for decades. Her unique style and satirical analysis of pop culture and every day life set her apart as a tour de force of the stage.
The cross-dressing diva's career began in Melbourne, Australia and has since expanded to include television shows, guest performances, Broadway appearances and guest editor at Vanity Fair. Her brand of entertainment includes comedy, music and audience particpation. She often refers to her fans as "possums" and encouraged guests to try and dress up before coming to see her at the Paramount.
Among her many accomplishments, Dame Edna claims she is responsible for getting First Lady Laura Bush "off of polyester." When pressed, she admitted that Mrs. Obama had not yet reached out to her for fashion advice.
The performances have been lauded as "Wickedly Hilarious" by the New York Post. Dame Edna demures at being called a mega star, thinking of her fame as more "giga" in nature.
