AUSTIN (KXAN) - Ready to launch the new commuter rail line Monday, a 32-mile run from Leander to downtown Austin, CapMetro is offering passengers several options to purchase tickets.

Passes:

  • One-day ($6 round trip)
  • Five day ($20)
  • 31-day ($70).

Students under eighteen and military personnel may get the monthly pass at half price. T

he 5-day pass is considered the best bargain because it saves a dollar a day, round trip, and is also good for weekend buses. But the 5-day pass is only available on-line or at HEB stores, and it's recommended you prevalidate it to speed up your boarding process.

Cap Metro's Barney Sifuentes recommends: "Plan ahead or order them online to avoid the long lines at the station vending machines. Plan ahead."

The first week of the run is at no cost, but after that free rides are only available to:

  • Seniors
  • Riders with disabilities
  • UT and ACC students and faculty
  • Law, fire and military personnel
  • Children under six.

Station vending machines will accept cash or debit/credit cards. If you do not have the exact price, you will not receive change in cash, but instead get an electronic credit that can be used for your next purchase.
