AUSTIN (KXAN) - A 1-year-old boy who died in an overheated parked car on Wednesday has been identified as Daniel Hu.

Still, Austin police are releasing few other details regarding the toddler's death after he was found in an SUV in the parking lot of Freescale Semiconductor on Wednesday afternoon.

A report came into 911 around 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. A passerby had seen the toddler in the back seat of the SUV and immediately called  for emergency personnel.

Police said a parent left the boy in the car at 7700 West Parmer Lane. With temperatures topping out at 106 degrees in Northwest Austin Wednesday, police said the parent left their son in the car that was not running and had the windows rolled up.

"Obviously, a child being in a car for an extended period on a hot day like this, the heat probably contributed to the death of the child," said Dennis Farris with APD.

It can take less than five minutes for the temperature inside a hot car to reach 120 degrees.

While it is not clear if heat caused the boy's death, police said they do not suspect foul play and are calling this a tragedy. Police have contacted the owner of the SUV.

No charges have been filed against the parents, but leaving a child in a car unattended for more than five minutes is a misdemeanor. It is a felony if the child is put in danger.
