AUSTIN (KXAN) - Bookspring gives parents a monthly recommendation on what to read with their children. This week's book is perfect for that impatient child who needs a lesson in empathy.

Babuschka's Doll is about a little girl who makes many demands on her busy grandmother or "babuschka" in Russian. One day, she sees a doll on her babushka's shelf and asks to play with it.

In the spirit of the age old lesson "be careful what you wish for," the little girl is astounded when the doll comes to life. Suddenly, the tables are turned and the doll starts making demands on the little girl until she is exhausted and weary.

When the little girl returns the doll to her grandmother, she leaves with a lesson in empathy and changes her ways to make life better for everyone.

The book is one of many Bookspring recommends parents read with their children. The organization is committed to promoting literacy throughout Central Texas and depends on donations to deliver new books to children in low-income communities.
