Attacks on Mack Brown take to the air

AUSTIN (KXAN) - It was a head-turning moment over Austin. A banner flew for an hour over the University of Texas campus Thursday morning that read "Hey Mack, quit whining. U knew the rules." Many UT students and fans walking below had some strong reactions. "It's definitely some kind of retaliation for the plane that was flown over the Oklahoma/OSU game," said UT fan Robert Selvera.

Selvera is referencing when UT fans and alumni paid for a banner to be flown over the OU/OSU game in Stillwater, Oklahoma. The UT banner pointed to Texas' 45-35 victory over OU in October. Supposedly, UT fans collected more than $7,000 to fund the flyover, part of a campaign to get poll voters to put Texas ahead of OU in the BCS. It is unclear who is responsible for this new banner, though it did take off from Bird's Next Airport , 12 miles northwest of Austin. Many UT fans assumed it was payback from OU alumni. One Texas Tech fan Web site has claimed Tech fans are responsible, sending their own message that they beat Texas in a head-to-head match.

Texas and Texas Tech lost the tie-breaker to OU to represent the Big XII South in the league title game Saturday in Kansas City. The BCS rankings were used to determine the tie-breaker. OU barely edged out Texas, with the computer rankings siding with the Sooners. "I'm kind of sick of watching ESPN nowadays," said UT student Cameron Keene. "It's always OU jumps to No. 2. I'm just hoping Missouri beats them"

UT fans are sticking by their coach, despite this banner. "He didn't sacrifice sportsmanship just to please the BCS," said Selvera. "I thought that was stand up of Mack Brown." Thursday, Brown congratulated the Sooners on a national radio show, but still said the Big XII tie-breaker system should be changed. Horns fans still have hope for this year. If Mizzou beats OU, Texas could go to the National Title game.
